Panchero's greater than Chipotle That is a controversial start to a review I admit- gotta get those clicks baby. What's that? Clicks are totally irrelevant on yelp because you don't get paid? What? Damnit.... But serially, Chipotle is stubborn and despite the constant demands from the 99% for queso they refuse to have any. If they want to shoot themselves in the foot like that I guess its their prerogative, but sorry Bobby I will be taking my business elsewhere. Enter Panchero's. Its your classic burrito place- you tell them what to put in the burrito, they make the burrito, you eat the burrito. No fuss no muss. I would say the quality of the meat is a little better than chipotle, the quality of the veggies a little lower.. but you don't make friends with salad. Get queso in the burrito, on the side with chips ( I will say the chips are often kind of stale :( ), in your drink- everywhere. They also have mellow yellow on tap which is pretty key.

This place looks very similar to a chipotle at first glance. However, I felt there was more variety in the ingredients. The tortilla is actually made right in front of you, so it is quite fresh. The workers appear to be very nice, since I got extra meat for no extra charge. One major gripe/concern I had is whether the ingredients, such as the salsa, were not as fresh. Nevertheless, I think it is definitely worth trying since chipotle started to get boring.

I would confidently say that the Panchero's burrito is the best when compared to Mexican Restaurants that are similar (Chipotle, Qdoba). What sets Panchero's a part is that they make the tortilla fresh in front of you and they mix all of the ingredients together! I think the quality of their meat isn't wonderful but everything else is great!

Ask for queso on top of your burrito, more sour cream is better. General rule is that don't make your burritos too dry.

This place is very fresh and affordable! There weren't many people in here to sit down but it was a decent amount of traffic. You can say it's a better chipotle.....yea it's possible

Good Americanized Mexican. Love the burrito bowl. But guys - please reduce the music volume. This ain't a dance floor.

Not the best. Not the worst. It's a nice place to get a quick filling meal that tastes good. One gets in line and chooses from several Mexican type foods. You can tell the person assembling your order what you want on and and can see him make it in front of your eyes. The place is nice, fast foody and clean. Staff is pleasant and since you're essentially the director, they get your order right. Prices are pretty fair, as well.

Perfect for late night food and kinda a mix between Chipotle style ordering and Taco Bell options = PERFECT :) And awesomeee staffff.

If you were to just eat the tortilla at Chipotle or Moe's or any other Mexican chain, you would not enjoy it. When you eat just the tortilla at Panchero's, you will love it. Make a burrito or quesadilla with it and it's amazing. And I love the fact that they mix all the ingredients before wrapping the burrito. I wish all places would do this. Prices are fair. The only reason I give it 4 stars vs. 5 stars is the service isn't the greatest. The employees clearly don't care about making a great and neat food product. I understand they probably make 39439 burritos a day, but a 5-star establishment would always put care into every product they serve to its customers.

Stopped here today for a quick lunch with my fiance and brother. We were walking around downtown, and this place is conveniently located directly across from Middle Earth. The set up is exactly the same as Chipotle, but the food was worse. The service, however, is the reason I would not return. The place was completely empty, and the two people working were completely disinterested. We weren't greeted when we came in, and when I asked if they could make me nachos (they have *all* of the ingredients, including queso), they told me they couldn't. When I pressed the issue, all I got was a blank stare and a no. Why can't you put chips and queso on a plate and charge me separately for all the toppings? I tried a quesadilla instead, and found the tortilla to be gummy and undercooked. Fresh cooked tortillas are only a draw when cooked thoroughly, and I wouldn't trust the staff here to take enough care or time to do so. The cheese wasn't melted, either. My brother ordered a burrito. Since we'd never been here before, we had no idea what toppings were available, and we had to painstakingly ask about each one and whether it was included because the staff was so indifferent. My fiance got chips and queso, and the chips were extremely salty. We found the food to be sloppily put together, bland, and the meat to be dry. I advise the management to look into the staffing at this location. If it was this bad when we were there when it was totally empty, I can't imagine how they could handle a busy lunch period. Avoid.

This is my second time going to Panchero's. The last time was 8 years ago. I ordered a chicken burrito bowl with queso, and guac. It wasn't the tastiest thing ever but it was good. Not nearly as crowded as Chipotle but it was only 11:00 am.

Pros: - Open late - Speed of service Cons: - Low quality food - Amount of - Quality of establishment e.g. projectile vomit in the public bathroom stall - Atmosphere late at night generally caters to inebriated, abrasive, belligerent college students Best fit: - Quick burrito or quesadilla - If BTB down the street is open, would highly recommend walking 2 minutes to purchase from them instead

I recently visited Panchero's on Saturday around 1am. It was incredibly busy and I waited nearly a half an hour for my food. The kitchen seemed incredibly overworked and hectic, although I will give then credit for having to deal with so many inebriated college students. First, I was given an incorrect order. I asked (multiple times!) for a steak quesadilla and was given chicken. Second, the food was quite poor. The tortilla had a rubber texture with very little meat and cheese. Overall, I'm quite disappointed with the food that I received, especially considering my extremely long wait. It was edible, but not nearly worth the wait or the money.

I finally got around to trying Panchero's. Having Chipotle as the one and only fast food burrito joint at home, I hope to try the numerous options in the UM campus area and complete an official Panchero's v. Qdoba v. Chipotle rundown (I have lofty goals for myself). Compared to Chipotle, a major plus of Panchero's is that they make their tortillas fresh. I ordered a chicken burrito, and the first guy in the food assembly line promptly took a ball of raw dough and with a few lever pushes transformed it into a nicely browned, bubbly tortilla. Another plus is that Panchero's seems to use less packaging material, since if you order for-here they simply give you your burrito naked on a small plate, without the aluminum foil. Unfortunately, the more numerous minuses include the fact that Panchero's charges for "extra" ingredients like a tortilla alongside a burrito bowl, and fajita vegetables. I suppose the cost comes out to be comparable to a Chipotle burrito since with nothing added a Panchero's burrito costs $6, ~$1 less than a Chipotle meal, but the psychological aspect of additional charges is a downer. When I bit into my burrito, the ingredients inside were only lukewarm, not hot enough. Panchero's unmemorable rice also cannot beat Chipotle's zingy cilantro lime version. Lastly, I don't get what the big deal is about "BOB." It's just a paddle that they use to mix up all the ingredients before they wrap up your burrito. People at Chipotle do that too upon request. Plus, I actually like having the ingredients separated within my wrap so I can choose which flavors to get with each bite, but would feel weird asking the people at Panchero's to avoid doing the mixing since the franchise seems to have made such a big deal out of it. While a freshly made tortilla is a huge plus, overall Chipotle wins for the superiority of the ingredients within.

I have eaten here probably 100 times. I had a bit of a problem in grad school, exacerbated by an office across the street from Panchero's and a limited dinner budget. The best part about Panchero's is the freshly made tortillas. They are absolutely delicious. I love ordering the chicken quesadilla with a double side of the regular salsa to dip it in. Otherwise I recommend the burrito, again with lots of the regular salsa and lettuce for crunch. Although it doesn't bother me at all, I don't think Panchero's is very authentic Mexican food. It certainly isn't particularly spicy (at least not the items I order). Just focus on how good the tortillas are.

Personally like chipotle better, but chipotle closes at like 5 pm so i come here every now and again. Great place for a late night snack especially if you're drunk out your mind. Also the servers curse at you under their breath if your burrito is overly complicated. But i just pretend like I dun speak Mexican.

  • Hannah S.

Cheap, Chipotle-style mexican food. I dig it :) Been a couple times since I've moved to A2, and I have to say I really enjoy it. The tortillas are super fresh (you watch them make it) and the ingredients are basically Chipotle's (though I like this place's salsa more). I'll go back, for sure.

Blech. My mom and I stopped in here for a quick bite one evening and it was the most depressing meal I've had in quite sometime. I went with a steak quesadilla and chips and queso and she went with a steak burrito. My quesadilla was lukewarm at best and lacked any flavor. Luckily the salsa had a bit of a kick to it but the meat itself was bland and the cheese was slightly rubbery since it wasn't hot and melty. The tortilla, which they prepare in house, was actually pretty decent but that's all it really had going for it. The chips were blue corn which was a nice surprise but they were stale. The queso was decent. It had a bit of spice which I was not expecting and it was pretty much the only thing I finished on my tray, despite the staleness of the chips. My mom got a burrito and barely finished half. She was not impressed. We also ordered an iced tea and they didn't have ice so basically it was lukewarm tea. Again, not very appealing. Together our meal ended up $20 and most of it ended up uneaten on our trays. Total bust. The staff was nice enough and the place was clean. Also they're open until 2am during the week and 4am during the weekend which is good for the post bar college crowd. Although if it's that late and I'm hungry I'll opt for a Taco Bell drive thru. I actually like them better.

Gotta get the queso on the burrito!! When in doubt make the push to cheros. Chips and queso and a burrito with queso, better then chipotle. Like chipotle tho the next morning, u may feel pretty bad

  • Michael G.

I don't understand the reviews here. I've eaten a ton of burritos in my day and this place was by far the worst. Eating the tortilla was like eating a wet piece of paper. It was truly terrible. The rest of the burrito had no flavor. I tasted a bit of spice from the hot salsa but everything else was incredibly bland. I will not be coming back here.

    (1)
  • Jeremy W.

Not awful, but not as good as Qdoba or Chipotle. Very convenient late night location leads to this questionable decision. Two nights in a row. Stingy with the meat in the burritos, and i dont think they even grill the quesadillas. Invest in Chipolteway.

    (2)
  • Cheryl L.

Compared to ANY Mexican spots in Cali, this place is a one star for taste of food alone. However, for being in Ann Arbor in Michigan, I give them 2 stars for being kind of authentic. The meat isn't that great and is dry, but the fresh tortillas are delish. Go to Chipotle if you guys have one near you...how sad, I'm recommending a chain. :(

    (2)
  • Nijole T.

I'm a sucker for new innovative local chains that can beat Chipotle (yes, I love it along with the rest of the world, but am so sick that at every location the line is out the door, do they put crack in their burritos, either way I refuse to eat there anymore, great or not) Pancheros has the same set up, but what makes the first world of a dfference is they make your taco or burrito shell to order. You watche them fluff and spread the ball of dough and its done seconds later and well worth it, best burrito shell I've ever had, simple, fast and easy, every mexican place should do this! I went with the salad, all of their fixings and grilled veggies! Let me tell you that was alot of joy in that bowl and my belly, everything was so fresh, my taste buds were very excited and satisfied! My husband got the carnitas and the steak burritos, both were huge, and I mean huge, so big he had to give me half (what a shame...) and that is very unusual for him. My son had the tacos with chicken and by far, the carnitas burrito is the way to go! Prices are great, the guys working as well, and the location is clean and inviting, wish they had one of these in Columbus!

Easily the best tortilla in the burrito game, bar none! The fillings in their burritos are more than adequate; they're fresh, tasty and incredibly plentiful. However, the star of the show is certainly the tortilla. To date, this is the ONLY burrito restaurant in my VERY LARGE experience that presses a ball of flour into a fresh tortilla - right in front of you! Quite literally and figuratively, this binds the whole experience together. Also, a word of caution. Their late hours make them a magnet for the drunk. Their 2 lbs Gordo Burrito acts as fuel to the fire for these selfsame drunk. Fortunately, they have very clean bathrooms...

  • Joyce H.

Good ole panchies. I have so many college memories here! The el gordo is as big as ever. I had to split it with my bf and we were full. When I was a college student, I could scarf down a burrito in 10 min flat so that I could go run to the library and study. Oh, how the times have changed. I think the best part of panchero's is their tortilla. It's very soft and delicious. The insides of the burrito are just a-ok though. It's good if you're hungry and need a quick fix for food. Random memory from college: on St Patty's Day, they dyed their tortillas green. It was fun for a little while and then I just started to get sick looking at my giant green burrito. I'm trying to shake that memory off so I can enjoy my panchie's in peace...

  • Beck E.

Their burritos are better than the ones you get down the block at BTB. But they are more expensive. But the tortillas are fresher. I've never regretted going here.

    (4)
  • Mary J.

Fresh made tortilla and they bob the burrito for you. I always go for the chicken queso burrito. Very friendly service.

Burritos for $5.95 on campus? Surprisingly, I was taken back by the price... I'd expect the price to be around $7 or so, but price along will get folks into the door. Of all the years that I lived in Ann Arbor, this was my first time trying out the place - don't ask me why it took me so long... anyways... I got the Carnitas burrito with everything... I also ordered the chips and queso. They serve blue corn tortilla chips, which sets this place apart from the rest of fast food Mexican places... as for queso, it was too watery... it should have been more thicker, but it tasted good... just make them thicker please. Burrito was good... compare to Qdoba, Chipolte, etc, the taste level is about the same... however, I'll place Panchero's higher on the list because they make fresh flour tortillas when they make tacos or burritos... this sets them apart from the rest. They are open late, so if you have craving for Mexican food and you are on/around campus, swing on by.

Oh, Pancheros... what the hell happened??? My friend bought me a beef burrito... and even though it was for free, it still didn't taste very good. (Now that's saying a lot!!) Next time I revisit the old stomping grounds, I will NOT make room for some Panchero's. MEH.

    (2)
  • Andrew K.

I have many memories of Panchero's from my undergrad days, most of which usually involved post-bar escapades and one of which nearly involved an altercation with an 300-lb. Iowa football fan with a short fuse. Now that it's many years later and I'm back at Michigan as a grad student, it's comforting to know that some things like Panchero's never change. One experiences a Panchero's burrito in layers of meaning, like a good novel. On first bite, there's the tortilla -- flattened and baked on the griddle right before your eyes -- oh so fresh and stretchy. Then there's the meat, which always tastes fresh and well seasoned. Then last, there's the fantastic tangy salsa (I only get hot, never medium or mild). I lived in California for several years after graduating from Michigan the first time, and they have their own, perhaps more authentic burritos out there. I don't clam Panchero's to be like that. It is what it is, which is unique and delicious.

    (4)
  • Matt D.

I love everything about Pancheros on South U. The staff is friendly and fast. The burritos are simply delicious and very filling. Although a burrito and drink together add up to be a little on the pricy side for a broke college student like myself, it is well worth it. The dough for the tortilla is just so good.

We ordered through Eatblue.com . After waiting around an Hour and a 1/2 we decided to call to see what was going on. "Eatblue" and "Straight 2 Your Door" delivery both just said they never got the order (even though we had a confirmation) and that now Pancheros was closed . We were told it was "just too bad". We were treated rudely and given nothing but attitude for a problem not of our own making. While I like Pancheros, the customer services connected with them, have turned us off from Pancheros, Eatblue.com and Straight 2 your Door. I would not recommend these places to anyone.

Panchero's has a special place in my heart. This is my first meal when I stepped into Ann Arbor, Michigan during my freshmen year, and it is my favorite place for a burrito ever since. It is fast, cheap and good. What makes their burrito better? Freshly made tortilla. Their meat can be inconsistent, I remember getting overly spiced or overly cooked meat before. The quesadilla is equally good, but it is not that filling, great for a snack. The staff are always friendly, and if you're a student here, definitely get a stamp card. Also this place opens till 3am, perfect place for supper but get ready for drunk college students during that time :). Ahhhh I miss Panchero's!

    (4)
  • Harrison L.

Comparable to Chipotle. But not as good as BTB. The meat is not as well cooked or consistently tasting as Chipotle or BTB and being priced higher than BTB I don't see how you would want this over BTB. In my opinion BTB is still the best burrito joint in AA by a long shot.

    (3)
  • Andy L.

In my opinion, another Chipotle styled burrito joint. Don't get me wrong, they are pretty good. I liked how doughy the tortilla was, it really gave the bite that much more flavor. But in terms of ingredients and preparation, you just can't beat the California out of the California kid. I tried the Carnitas and it was pretty tasty. The place played a lot of funk/rock music which I found to be amusing.

    (3)
  • Omid F.

Tortillas = amazing. Ingredients = super "meh". I've yet to find a burrito combination that isn't the most subpar burrito on Earth. I love their (any meat) quesadillas with their spicy salsa and sour cream. Excellent for a quick bite. I prefer Chipotle to these guys, though.

    (3)
  • Cat K.

This past year I constantly found myself in Panchero's. After coming back from the gym, a sporting event, hanging out. I always ended up there. I by-far prefer Chipotle's steak over Panchy's (and also the lime-rice). Theirs has a tendency of being dry. One thing I do keep going back for is the tortilla. Its hard to get the warm, fresh-pressed, dough-y goodness out of your head. I started eating burritos normally but then started eating Steak Quesadilla. Its work the money and oh so good at 3 AM.

    (3)
  • Hung T.

I used to go to Panchero's before BTB was my steady. While Panchero's does have the superior tortilla (pressed from a ball as you order), the fillings (at least for vegetarians) just aren't as good. There's something about the ingredients that just tastes bland. After a while, you forget you're eating a burrito because it's all the same. Save yourself some dough and get a better burrito at the BTB Cantina less than a block away.

    (3)
  • Tom X.

What makes this place..... TORTILLAS (made fresh to order and you can taste it) Everything else is just pretty standard and bland. I don't love their steak as it's not as flavorful as qdoba's or chipotle but it is acceptable. The burritos are quite good but again the only thing that makes this place a go-to spot for me in AA is b/c of their tortillas.

    (3)
  • Michael Z.

This is my favorite Mexican place in town. I visited there very often during the 6 years of my stay in Ann Arbor. It is not the fanciest Mexican food you can get. But it is fast, relatively cheap, clean, and most importantly, the food is good. And it's next to the campus. That's all I care about when I go to a fast food restaurant like Panchero's. I actually visited there again recently when I went back to visit Ann Arbor. it was still as nice.

    (4)
  • Andrew K.

As a fast burrito joint, I really can't put more than 3*s. But Panchero's does burritos well, really well. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the burrito-heavy Ann Arbor area. While Chipotle, BTB, Tios, and any other Mexican restaurants I am forgetting have good burritos, tacos, quesadillas and other Mexican treats, Panchero's trumps them all. First of all, it is all about the tortillas. Freshly made, they really are what makes the burrito. I've had all three meats (chicken, steak, and carnitas) but the carnitas is definitely my favorite. There is an abundance of fillings and sauces that range from sweet to spicy to something in between. MAKE SURE you ask them to mix the burrito. This has always been my main criticism of burritos: all of the fillings are separated in the wrapping and you can never get a bite of everything together! Panchero's mixes their burritos right before wrapping them up if you ask and it really makes the dish that much more enjoyable. P.S. The staff is very friendly and will talk with you/joke around if you're willing.

    (3)
  • Eric P.

In my opinion Panchero's is much better than any of the other local or chain burrito places in Michigan. First of all they make your tortilla to order, which tastes so much better than any of the packaged tortillas you'll find at Qdoba, Zumba, BTB, Moe's, or Chipotle. The meat tastes betters too. And they have Jalapenos! I think a burrito sans jalapenos is sacrilege! The veggies, the guac, the cheese, everything just tastes better and more fresh. The added bonus of Panchero's being open late (until 4am some days) is one reason I seem to wind up here whenever I am in Ann Arbor. Hopefully I'll be visiting soon!

    (4)
  • Ashley L.

You know, Panchero's actually sucks compared to many other places that are like it. But it's because it's open late after the bars are closed that makes is so good and popular. Their filling isn't as good as other places but their tortillas are very delish. It's a bit overrated as many things are - not amazing but not horrible.

    (3)
  • Justin G.

Seriously, it was THE place to hit after the bar. I gained a bunch of weight thanks to this place, but it was well worth it. They create the burrito dough and press it in front of you. Then they fry it on the grill and pack it full of goodness. It blows all the places such as Chipotle away.

    (4)
  • Allie Y.

Can't say much for the tortillas since I get the burrito bowl but this place is yummy. Can never go wrong with a carnitas burrito, and the corn adds just the right amount of sweetness to an otherwise wonderfully savory burrito.

    (4)
  • Kelly B.

My personal favorite burrito place in AA. Love the fresh tortilla and the fact that they will bob (mix) the contents for you. I discovered the key to a great burrito here is asking for extra salsa. I also feel the best digestively after tucking in to a burrito here vs Chipotle.

    (4)
  • Sarah M.

I've never eaten here sober. In fact, I've generally only eaten here to try and prevent a hangover the next morning. To their credit, it works. Their tortillas are good. Kind of doughy. I've only ever gotten quesadillas here. They're pretty good...but I don't know if they're better than BTB's. Maybe I'm just biased. I guess maybe it's just because in order to get Panchero's and then walk home (because who in their right mind would want to sit in there with screaming drunk people), my food could be cold by then. I always lived a short distance away from BTB. So BTB usually won. But, the guys that work here are saints for putting up with all of the drunken assholes at 2:30am. And they work fast. So I can't complain with that. Maybe I'll try going there sober and then update my review.

    (3)
  • Jess O.

I've never had a bad meal from Panchero's (this location or any other). Their food is consistently delicious and reasonably priced. What puts them above their competitors are their tortillas - always made fresh, right in front of you, and taste GREAT (just like my grandma used to make them...mmm).

    (5)
  • Caroline L.

Let me start off by saying I am no Mexican-food snob. This place is very similiar to Chipotle. But I noticed 2 big differences- the ingredients were nowhere near as good and the portion was much smaller (although it was about .50 cheaper). The steak was a joke. It was in tiny tiny pieces and very very dry. I usually feel pretty full from a burrito bowl but this left me wanting more... the chips were also stale. It wasn't the worst but hands-down I'd go to Chipotle instead.

    (2)
  • Charles D.

my favorite fast food spot in all of ann arbor. i can't wait visit you this weekend when i go back to visit. lemme practice... i would like a steak burrito. yes on the cheese. yes on the lettuce. yes on the pico de gallo. no thanks on the guacamole. two cups of hot salsa on the side please. oh yeah and an ice water.

    (5)
  • Clayton H.

Pretty unimpressive honestly! BTB is much better for burritos, and cheaper.

    (2)
  • Lindsay W.

Really unimpressed with this Panchero's. Recently purchased a salad and the lettuce was slimy, limp, and clearly too old to be palatable, let alone sold (I wouldn't even want to eat lettuce this bad if it were in my fridge and I were broke).

    (1)
  • Derrick P.

4 stars for their fresh tortillas, but 3 stars for their lower quality ingredients, especially the meat, which tends to be overcooked and dry. cilantro. tortillas are really best in town, but overall, ingredients not as fresh as the chipotle on state street.

    (3)
  • Wadim S.

Best Burrito ever. Need I say more. Better than Cali burritos.... Word..

    (5)
  • Jamie K.

Panchero's...what can I say. When I was in undergrad, I would hike here from all points of the compass. i even carried someone here once (literally, from Alice Lloyd to Pancheros). I have to admit, I was in undergrad long ago, but I still go to AA regularly, and stop by here. It's not as good as I remember (but what ever is). they don't make them as big as they used to, but the hot sauce is still good (not vinegary like many hot sauces) and you can't beat the tortilla with a stick. I'm giving them a 4 mainly for nostalgia, but it's probably more deserving of a 3 now.

    (4)
  • Jose S.

Best taco/burrito joint in Ann Arbor these days. Great tortillas, not too much rice, plenty of meat, decent price. Always clean at dinnertime on Friday nights when the family and I go in, a big deal to me in Ann Arbor, where cleaniness in fast food places is usually of no concern to the employees and management.

    (5)
  • Christina L.

Love the carnitas and LOVE the tortillas. So soft and yummy :) The white sauce is really nice, too. Don't go to BTB if you can help it.

    (4)
  • Eric K.

There meats always seem a bit dry, but their tortillas make up for it. It has a wonderful texture to it. This is the go to place when I'm on the run because it fills you up and its fast. Oh yea, the workers are ALWAYS talking trash about the customers. It's funny listening to them because they don't think anyone knows Spanish.

    (3)
  • Meredith P.

Best quesadilla. Yes, better than BTB in my opinion. And way better than Burrito Joint. But it's hard to compare quesadillas because they are both "burrito" places. I can't speak for any other food at Panchero's besides the quesadilla and chips and queso because the first time I went in I got them and haven't wanted to try anything else. They're open late and the guys who work there are fun to talk to. Plus, they don't get mad when you just ask for a water cup every single time you go in there. :-)

I'm surprised to see so many 1 & 2 star reviews. But then again, if it's based on better burrito joints, then I guess you're just a snob. Nothing wrong with that. As for me, this place kicks ass. Now I'm not from Texas or California so I guess I'm just used to burrito chains. I may not be having the "real thing" but for anyone else who's blissfully ignorant, then get ready to enjoy a great burrito restaurant. For starters, this place is open till 3:00 am. No complaints there. After a night a drinking or studying, this place is great to refuel or wind down. Secondly, Panchero's has the best tortillas on campus (the best I've ever had too). If you want a cheap snack, just order a couple of tortillas and a side of salsa or guacamole. The big tortillas are about $1 and the small ones are a measly 50 cents. Piishaa to anyone who says that you have to spend $7 to have a good time here. Now for the burritos: The meat is usually pretty bland, but on a recent trip there it had lots of flavor. I'll just go on record saying that you may or may not get lucky in the meat department (that's what she said). The salsa could be a lot spicier, but the sour cream and guacamole are good. They don't offer any Tabasco sauce, lemon, or limes for your burrito like they do at Chipotle which is a let-down, but I guess I can do without it. Aesthetically, this place is wonderful. They recently gave the place a face lift, adding a counter in the middle of the restaurant, more booths, and cool ceiling decorations. They also stripped the side of the wall so that the brick shows (a nice touch). Lastly, the quesadilla: Screw you guys who say that the quesadilla is crap. "Its just cheese and whatever meat you pick with no extra flavor, except for some salsa on the side." What did you expect Scott? It's a quesadilla! I guarantee you'll enjoy this place, regardless of what other people say.

Aww, it makes me sad to see negative reviews of this place! Who knows, maybe the quality has gotten worse since the last time I went (Oct '08)? But regardless, this was my absolute fave burrito place in Ann Arbor (better than Chipotle, Qdoba or BTB in my opinion). Their tortillas are the best, and the guys who work there were so friendly. I miss Pancheros dearly. It satisfied my late-night munchies and contributed to my weight gain in college. Gotta love it.

I'm sorry...I know I ate here a lot back on campus, but here are two reasons to avoid the Panch if you can: 1) Piece of plastic bag inside of my burrito 2) Piece of plastic bag inside of my burrito FOR A SECOND TIME! I think I've met only 1 student in all of my undergrad days that actually liked Panchero's more than BTB.

Panchero's plays in the ever growing field of high end fast food burrito joints, and I honestly think that it has achieved mediocrity in that field. On the plus side they have fresh pressed and cooked flower tortillas, but to counter that point they do not make their corn based sibling, and to me things like tacos should be on corn. As for what to get, the burritos are a strong point but are not overly innovative, and the salads are pretty tasty. For what to avoid the Gourmet Club hit the nail on the head, the Quesadilla is not worth getting. Its just cheese and whatever meat you pick with no extra flavor, except for some salsa on the side. On the up-side its clean and there is a good amount of seating, and its recently been remodeled inside, despite not really needing it in the first place. Its quick and convenient. In addition to the tortilla being made fresh when you order, the other ingredients are fresh too, and in this case that moves it from what would be a 1 star review to a 3.

My favorite place to eat in Ann Arbor. I used to know the guys who worked there and they used to hook it up big time. They even gave me a hot sauce that was especially made for me! Whenever I visit for a football game, I always make sure to hit up Pancheros. Their fresh pressed tortillas make all the difference!

Once a week inauthentic Mexican food fix, but still worth it. The wraps are nicely steamed and doughy. Lots of protein in the burrito to sustain the nutrition-deprived student on-the-go.

  • Susan L.

Do I review Panchero's based on my memories in college when I stumbled in here at 3am? Or do I base my review on the actual food and how it compares to other burrito joints around the country? If I did the first, Panchero's would get a solid 4 stars, mainly because the food prep guys hit on girls in Spanish and they had those handy buy-10-get-one-free punch cards. If I did the second, it would get 1 star. What's their motivation for making a good burrito for drunk, cheap college students? There is none.

Man, I remember when this was an absolutely orgasmic place to go eat. We used to be out till the weeeee hours of the night and this place would still be open. It was a great way to top off the night. However, those fools got all lazy in the ass and now a poorly prepared burrito is the result of their neglect. With no fire, no desire, no pride in your food all you're left with is a burned out burrito joint. I feel like I lost a loved one. The rice is so hard you can load it in a gun and kill someone with it, the meat is dryer than wheat germ, and the damn tortilla's are so damned undercooked its like you're trying to eat Stretch Armstrong. It's too bad and so sad that this place went down the gutter but new burrito places opened up so not all is lost.

    (1)

It wasn't the worst but hands-down I'd go to Chipotle instead.

my favorite fast food spot in all of ann arbor. i can't wait visit you this weekend when i go back to visit. lemme practice... i would like a steak burrito. yes on the cheese. yes on the lettuce. yes on the pico de gallo. no thanks on the guacamole. two cups of hot salsa on the side please. oh yeah and an ice water.

  • Clayton H.

Pretty unimpressive honestly! BTB is much better for burritos, and cheaper.

    (2)

  • Jon C.

    (3)

    (4)

My personal favorite burrito place in AA. Love the fresh tortilla and the fact that they will bob (mix) the contents for you. I discovered the key to a great burrito here is asking for extra salsa. I also feel the best digestively after tucking in to a burrito here vs Chipotle.

    (4)

Their burritos are better than the ones you get down the block at BTB. But they are more expensive. But the tortillas are fresher. I've never regretted going here.

Fresh made tortilla and they bob the burrito for you. I always go for the chicken queso burrito. Very friendly service.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
